Four people were injured and a three-month-old girl was killed in a fiery crash on the I-5 Freeway in Tustin late Friday, authorities said.
A Dodge Caravan carrying five people, all from Sammamish, WA, was traveling southbound on the I-5 Freeway just north of Tustin Ranch Road at about 11:22 p.m. when it struck an unknown object in the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver saw flames coming from the rear of the minivan and drove to the right shoulder, the CHP said. The driver and three passengers tried to get the infant out but couldn’t because the minivan had become fully engulfed in flames, authorities said.
CHP officers and Orange County Fire Authority rendered aid but the baby died at the scene. The girl’s name was not released Saturday.
